Preparing for a weekend of sketching.
A couple of years ago, I was taking a Make Art That Sells class with Lilla Rogers. The class participants were trying to guess what the next drawing prompt would be, and we created a thread of random subject matter, that went on forever. It was an amazing list. I ended up creating a document from that thread, and printed it out for future inspiration. Today, I have a mason jar in my studio, with all of those ideas cut into little slips of paper, and I use it as a jumping off point when it's time to sit down and sketch. Some wonderful work has come out of that little jar, and as my studio practice evolves, it is a really fun part of my week. At the beginning of the weekend, I grab a couple random slips of paper and they become the basis for my weekends sketches.
I look at them as a weekend assignment. Often times it forces me to draw something I never would have thought of on my own.
You're welcome to join me in my weekend assignment. I will post the random word group here on my blog every Saturday morning, and you have the weekend to play. No pressure! You can leave it as a sketching exercise if you like, or if you find it has sparked a more complete piece, you can join me in posting your progress on instagram using the hashtag #weeklysketchprompt
I hope you join me! I'd love to see what you come up with!
Here is this week's prompt:
